Rose Lavelle wowed her hometown fans with a goal and three assists in the first 15 minutes to overshadow Alex Morgan's hat trick as the U.S. women's national team again routed Paraguay 8-0 in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
The crowd had barely settled into the five-month-old TQL Stadium when Lavelle headed her 16th international goal from a cross by Casey Krueger in the fourth minute. It didn't get any better for the Paraguayans, who were beaten 9-0 by the Americans on Thursday in Cleveland when Carli Lloyd scored five goals.
The U.S. led 5-0 at the half Tuesday as Sophia Smith netted her first U.S. goal, Morgan scored twice and Catarina Macario got the first of her two in the game.
Morgan, who has 114 career goals, made it 6-0 in the 53rd minute. Lloyd replaced her eight minutes later and Lavelle was taken off in the 71st minute to a standing ovation.
Lloyd's goal in the 78th minute and Macario's volley in the 82nd made it 8-0.
Lloyd has 134 goals in 314 games, the fourth-best total ever in international play, trailing Canada's Christine Sinclair (187 in 303 games) and Americans Abby Wambach (184/256) and Mia Hamm (158/275).
The U.S. extended its home unbeaten streak to 60 (55 wins and five ties) and has won 22 straight on American soil since Nov. 7, 2019. The program record is 23 consecutive home wins from April 1993 to February 1996.
It's likely the mark will fall during the next set of matches when the U.S. plays South Korea in Kansas City, Kan., on Oct. 21 and Oct. 26 in Saint Paul, Minn.
Those will be the final U.S. matches for Lloyd, 39, who will retire following the completion of the Women's Professional Soccer League this fall.
After the opening score, Lavelle set up Smith in the sixth minute. Morgan doubled the lead to 4-0 with scores in eighth and 14th minutes, and Lavelle assisted on the 15th-minute tally by Macario.
