There are striking parallels between the attempted regime change in Tehran and the longest military mission in US history
Almost 25 years ago, the US attacked a far-away nation whose government was accused of harboring terrorists and refusing to meet Washington's demands - just as it is doing now.
Two decades later, US troops left Afghanistan, leaving in charge the same political movement they toppled in 2001. The US spent over $2 trillion and 2,400 American military lives to replace the Taliban with the Taliban. The death toll also included tens of thousands of Afghan national military and police, over 47,000 civilians, more than 1,000 allied foreign troops and countless others.
RT's Donald Courter explores the parallels between what became America's longest foreign military engagement and the ongoing attempt to bend Iran to America's will.
