No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner of Italy went the distance with German second seed Alexander Zverev and delivered a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory to win the Erste Bank Open on Sunday in Vienna, Austria.
Sinner brushed off the first-set defeat by racing out to a 3-0 lead in the second set. In the third, neither player broke serve until the 11th game, when Zverev lost a 40-30 lead and Sinner broke him on his first opportunity.
The World No. 2 clinched his second ATP 500 title in as many months, following the China Open in September, and won his fourth tournament of the year. Sinner also won in Vienna in 2023.
Swiss Indoors Basel
Brazilian 19-year-old Joao Fonseca took down eighth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain 6-3, 6-4, to clinch his second tour-level title in Basel, Switzerland.
Fonseca had little trouble against Davidovich Fokina, hitting seven aces and winning 36 of his 48 first-service points (75%). Davidovich Fokina lost despite staving off 10 of the 13 break points he faced.
The winner of last year's Next Generation ATP Finals, Fonseca had his breakthrough tour-level victory in February at the Argentina Open, but Basel marks his first ATP 500 win. He'll climb to a career-best No. 28 in the world rankings on Monday.
