Xi urges Asia-Pacific economies to jointly forge a sustainable, brighter future
Chinese President Xi Jinping said here Saturday that Asia Pacific economies must enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, make good use of new opportunities, stand up to new challenges, and forge a sustainable and brighter future together.
Xi made the remarks in his speech titled "Jointly Forging a Sustainable and Brighter Future" at the second session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
At present, the new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is deepening, opening new horizons for humanity, Xi noted.
UN Security Council renews mandate of mission in Libya
The UN Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the UN Support Mission in Libya for one year, until Oct. 31, 2026.
Resolution 2796, which won the unanimous support of the 15-member council, urges the Libyan political institutions and key stakeholders to resolve outstanding politically contentious issues pertaining to elections as soon as possible.
Iraq condemns civilian killings in Sudan's El Fasher
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Saturday strongly condemned the recent attacks and killings of civilians in El Fasher, capital of Sudan's North Darfur State.
In a statement, the ministry rejected any attempts to destabilize Sudan or infringe upon its sovereignty, and warned against any form of geographical or political division of the country.
It voiced full support for "adopting the path of dialogue as a means to solve problems, renounce violence, and resort to the peaceful track."
143 delegations to attend Brazil's climate summit ahead of COP30
The Brazilian government on Friday confirmed the participation of 143 delegations in a climate summit scheduled for Nov. 6-7 in Belem, northern Brazil.
The summit, convened by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, will serve as a prelude to the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled for Nov. 10 to 21, also in the Amazon city of Belem.
At a press briefing, Mauricio Lyrio, head of Brazil's COP30 negotiations, said the significant presence of world leaders will make the summit "highly representative."
China's int'l trade promotion body to host APEC CEO summit in 2026
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will host the APEC CEO summit in 2026.
CCPIT chairman Ren Hongbin attended the closing and handover ceremony of the APEC CEO Summit 2025 here on Friday and delivered a speech as the chairperson of the 2026 summit, welcoming the business community from the Asia-Pacific region to attend the 2026 summit in China and to actively participate in the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo and other economic and trade activities.
Russia strongly condemns U.S. for excessive use of military force in Caribbean
Russia strongly condemns the United States for the excessive use of military force during counter-narcotics missions in the Caribbean, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Saturday.
Such actions violate both U.S. domestic and international law, Zakharova said, adding that the position is recognized by representatives of a number of countries and international organizations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
"We reaffirm our firm support for the Venezuelan leadership in its efforts to defend national sovereignty," she said.
