Macapa, capital of Brazil's Amapa state, is one of the few cities in the world that lies on the Equator. Located on the northern bank of the Amazon River estuary, it combines the lush features of tropical rainforest with coastal wetland ecology.

For generations, local residents have lived by the water, engaging in fishing, fruit transport and other traditional livelihoods, forming a distinctive model of coexistence between people and nature.
