Sebastian Korda got a small measure of revenge by defeating Michael Zheng 6-4, 6-4 in an all-U.S. first-round clash at the Nexo Dallas Open on Monday.
Korda ended a three-match losing streak that included a five-set, opening-round loss to Zheng at the Australian Open last month.
In the rematch, Korda was nearly perfect on his serve, winning 29 of 30 first-serve points and saving the only break point he faced. He had a 24-8 edge in winners while the players had nearly the same total of unforced errors (20 for Korda, 19 for Zheng).
Third-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain got past U.S. qualifier Zachary Svajda 6-4, 7-6 (1), and eighth-seeded Frances Tiafoe of the United States defeated Frenchman Terence Atmane 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Brandon Nakashima topped Italy's Mattia Bellucci 6-3, 6-4.
IEB+ Argentina Open
Seventh-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry got off to a winning start in his home country, beating Italian qualifier Andrea Pellegrino 6-3, 6-4 in Buenos Aires.
Etcheverry got the lone service break of the first set to go up 2-0 and the only service break of the second set to lead 3-2.
The Czech Republic's Vit Kopriva beat Argentina's Alex Barrena 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and Bolivian qualifier Hugo Dellien trounced Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur 6-4, 6-1. Spain's Pedro Martinez cruised past Argentine qualifier Lautaro Midon 6-4, 6-1.
ABN Amro Open
France's Ugo Humbert took advantage of nine double faults from fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia and prevailed 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 in the first round at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Humbert saved three break points to go up 2-1 in the third set, then got the decisive break in the next game. He saved three more break points to led 5-2 and subsequently closed out the win on his second match point.
Sixth-seeded Cameron Norrie of Great Britain defeated Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6 (3), 6-1, and Australian qualifier Christopher O'Connell edged France's Valentin Royer 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4). Spain's Jaume Munar eliminated Norway's Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 6-1, 6-3.
