London [UK], March 18 (ANI): Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez expressed doubts regarding his future with the club following their shocking exit from the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 at the hands of defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
After a 3-0 drubbing at home, Chelsea were shown the door out of the UEFA CL contention with a loss of 2-8 on aggregate, previously being beaten 5-2 away from home in the first leg, making this the joint-heaviest loss for the iconic club in Europe.
The Blues are, however, having a rather decent season in the domestic circuit, sitting in sixth place in Premier League standings with 48 points, 23 points away from table-toppers Arsenal. The team is eyeing another Champions League qualification with a top-four finish in the competition. They have reached the FA Cup quarterfinals and are scheduled for the clash against Port Vale on April 4.
Enzo, an Argentine World Cup-winning footballer, struck a deal with Chelsea in 2023 after his side's FIFA World Cup win till 2032. However, just three years into his deal, the midfielder has offered no guarantee that he will complete his contract with the club.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina after the loss, as quoted by Goal.com, Enzo said, 'I do not know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There is the World Cup, and then we will see,' he said.
While the Champions League campaign was a dissapointment for Chelsea, the two-time CL champions, Enzo had a fine season as a player, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists across 45 appearances.
However, the Chelsea head coach, Liam Rosenior, downplayed the comments and said the priority remains on the next Premier League match against Everton, which could boost their chances of a top-four finish in the league.
'Firstly, I have not seen that (Enzo's comments),' Rosenior said, as per Football London, as quoted by Goal.com. 'It is hard for me to speak on speculation after a game, and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday.' (ANI)
