Patna (Bihar) [India], April 14 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the resignation of Nitish Kumar as Bihar Chief Minister, alleging that 'Bihar will now be governed by Gujarat.'

Speaking with the media, Yadav criticised Nitish Kumar for paving the way for the BJP in the state, stating that the new CM 'will not be the choice of the people.'

'He is establishing a party with an ideology of those who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. CM used to take the name of Bapu. But now, he is giving an opportunity to the BJP. He has given an opportunity to a party with the ideology of Nathuram Godse. He is establishing those who used to abuse Karpoori ji. Whoever forms the Govt and becomes the CM, it will not be the choice of the people...Whoever the CM might be, Bihar will now be governed by Gujarat,' he said.

Meanwhile, BJP's Central Observer for Bihar and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary was unanimously elected as the Leader of the BJP Legislative Party in Bihar.

Samrat Choudhary will be the first Chief Minister from the BJP in Bihar.

This development comes after the longest-serving CM of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, who has been Chief Minister for the past 21 years, tendered his resignation to Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd) at Lok Bhavan in Patna. He took oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10.

The move to the Rajya Sabha marks the fulfilment of Kumar's long-stated desire to serve in every legislative house in India (Bihar Assembly, Bihar Council, Lok Sabha, and finally, Rajya Sabha).

In a post on X, Kumar said that he resigned following the Cabinet meeting held earlier today. He extended his 'full cooperation and guidance' to the new government, expressing confidence that a 'lot of very good work will be done.'

'We have done a lot of work for the people of Bihar. For so many days, we have continuously served the people. We had decided that we would now leave the post of Chief Minister, and therefore, after today's cabinet meeting, we met the honourable Governor and submitted our resignation to him. Now the new government will look after the work here. The new government will have my full cooperation and guidance. Even ahead, a lot of very good work will be done, and Bihar will advance a great deal,' he wrote in the post.

This transition effectively hands the reins of the Bihar government over to the BJP, marking a significant structural shift in the state's power dynamics ahead of future elections. (ANI)
